Poetry Thoughts...
At the start of our poetry unit, students brainstorm thoughts on the overall topic. After compiling the student thoughts for each hour, I compiled a Wordle graphic for each class... We'll try this again at the end of the unit to see if anything changes. :-)
Student Narrative Essays
In our first unit, students learned about the characteristics of narrative text. Narrative text is writing that tells a story, and includes a beginning, middle, and end. At the end of the unit, students created their own examples of narrative texts, using stories from their own life experiences.

Student "Write-Like" Poetry
Throughout our short poetry unit, students learned about a variety of poetry styles (narrative poetry, ballads, haiku, free verse, acrostic). At the end of the unit, students created their own poetry, following the structure of the poetry styles they have learned.
