Personal Narrative Essays 2013-2014 |
In our first unit, students learned about the characteristics of narrative text. Narrative text is writing that tells a story, and includes a beginning, middle, and end. At the end of the unit, students created their own examples of narrative texts, using stories from their own life experiences.
Each essay included here is an original student writing by a 6th grade student in English Language Arts. Some stories have been altered slightly for anonymity. This includes removing author names and changing the names of characters involved.
Work is graded using a grading rubric, and students have received comments in class. No changes are made to student writing. Some errors in spelling, grammar, and format may remain. This does impact student scores.

Please Note: This next author (below) struggled with punctuation, capitalization, word choice, and sentence structure, but told a great narrative. The story includes plenty of descriptive detail and has a clear beginning, middle, and end. This student will receive feedback and comments in class. However, since the writer did compose a great example of narrative text, it is included here as an example.
